Packers rookie WR Romeo Doubs gets new nickname from CB Eric Stokes

Romeo Doubs was one of two fourth-round draft picks by the Green Bay Packers in the 2022 NFL Draft. While all of the post-draft attention was paid to second-round wide receiver Christian Watson, Doubs silently went about his job of acclimating himself with the Packers offense. The key word here is “silently.” Doubs silently turned heads during OTAs, oftentimes outperforming Watson, who had a pretty solid offseason. Now with Watson on the PUP, Doubs is getting even more attention. The fact of the matter, though, is that he is not looking for it. He is letting his play speak for itself.

Romeo Doubs Has an Awesome New Nickname

After garnering praise from teammates and others in attendance at training camp, Romeo Doubs has been given a new nickname courtesy of cornerback Eric Stokes. Zach Jacobson of CBS Sports tweeted out the following quote from the Packers’ second-year cornerback.

Romeo Doubs’ humble demeanor earned him ‘quiet assassin’ as a nickname from Eric Stokes. “He doesn’t talk, he doesn’t say anything,” Stokes said today. “He just makes a catch, makes a play, does his little chest bumps with a couple people and keeps it moving. He doesn’t speak.”

Seriously, this mental approach is so crucial, especially coming from a first-year wide receiver not getting caught up in the moment after two huge days at training camp.

Other Training Camp Updates

Rashan Gary is emerging as a leader on the defense. When the second-string defense was struggling, Gary entered their huddle and fired them up. The result was a massive stop by the defense, which gave them momentum for the rest of practice.
Rico Gafford is continuing to impress. He had several pass breakups while playing with the second-string defense. His special teams prowess and his performance on defense in camp may lead him onto the Packers’ 53-man roster.
Pat O’Donnell has a cannon for a leg. While there is no footage, he apparently kicked a ball so far that other drills ceased so the players could admire it.
