Packers Seem To Admit They Want To Move On From Aaron Rodgers

As the 2023 NFL offseason continues to heat up, the story at the top of everyone’s newsfeeds has been the situation between the Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers. At times, it has appeared to be a guarantee that he will be traded and at others he has been predicted to end up either back with the Packers or headed into retirement.

Right now, we are at one of those times where it seems like a foregone conclusion that he will be traded to the New York Jets.

In a recent interview with Packers’ president Mark Murphy, he seemed to slip up and reveal that Green Bay truly does want to move on from Rodgers. That may not be the case, but his words hinted at that.

There was also this during Mark Murphy's interview:

Q: Is there a scenario where Aaron is still the starting QB of the Packers next season?

MURPHY: Yeah, I mean unless, if things don't work out the way we want them, yeah, we would. He is obviously a great player."

If there was any doubt that the Packers are ready to go with Jordan Love, this quote seemed to crush it. Murphy made it clear, although again it could have been a mistake, that Green Bay wants Rodgers to request a trade or retire. Either way, the team would be entering a new and exciting era of football with a promising young quarterback leading the way.

Needless to say, this situation has been a bit of deja vu for Packers’ fans. Brett Favre went through this exact situation as the starting quarterback ahead of Rodgers. In fact, he was even traded to the Jets as well to pave the way for Rodgers to be the new starter in Green Bay.

While the writing is on the wall for Rodgers to leave the Packers, it doesn’t make the situation any easier. Rodgers has given the Packers many amazing years of success and dominance. Even up until his final season, he played at a superstar level and has good football left in him.

Seeing him play in a Jets’ jersey would be a rough pill to swallow for the Packers and their fans. However, that’s part of the business that is the NFL.

Expect to hear more news and rumors about a potential Aaron Rodgers trade in the coming days. The Packers and Jets want a decision before free agency opens, which gives him just a few short days to make a decision.
