The Green Bay Packers are rolling again, as they picked up two consecutive victories after a bye in Week 5. On Sunday, Jordan Love and company avoided what would have been a deeply frustrating loss to the Arizona Cardinals on the road, as they bested the Cards in Glendale, 27-23.
Arizona did not have the services of Kyler Murray and instead assigned veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett as the placeholder under center. Brissett did a good job overall, passing for 279 yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions, but he simply couldn’t get through Green Bay’s defense in the final stretches of the fourth quarter. He was also sacked six times for a loss of 43 yards.
Brissett and the Cardinals had Green Bay on upset alert after a great start to the contest. Arizona had a three-point lead at the end of the first quarter and took a six-point lead into halftime. They also led Green Bay by three points with nine minutes to go in the fourth quarter, but failed to score any more points the rest of the way, while seeing the Packers execute a go-ahead touchdown down the stretch.
Making his second start in lieu of the injured Kyler Murray, Brissett lamented his performance in the clutch. The Cardinals had two turnovers on downs after their aforementioned field goal, as Green Bay’s defense held up when it mattered the most.
“I’ve got to do a better job at the end of the game and making the right decisions,” Brissett said following the contest, per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN). “There are some throws that more than likely could have changed the outcome of this game.”
The 2-5 Cards will next take on the Dallas Cowboys in Arlington, while the 4-1-1 Packers head to Pittsburgh to face Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
