Former Green Bay Packers linebacker Brady Poppinga has decided to take legal action against Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center, a hospital based in Southern California.
Poppinga believes the medics at Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center played a role in his son's death. He claims they didn't properly care for his 17-year-old son, Julius Poppinga. The lawsuit states that Julius was brought to the hospital on Aug. 27, 2023 due to chest pains. Unfortunately, he never recovered despite receiving round-the-clock treatment.
The Poppinga family learned from the autopsy that Julius died of a pulmonary embolism.
Here are more details from TMZ:
On Aug. 29, the Poppingas said in their lawsuit Julius was in and out of consciousness while fighting to breathe ... but at one point, he woke up and was "tearful and afraid" as he yelled to Brooke he thought "he was going to die."
Brady and Brooke allege a doctor on the scene "negligently and wrongfully concluded" Julius was having a panic attack -- and prescribed him some medication. A short time later, they say Julius passed away.
The Poppinga family is suing Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center for medical negligence. They're asking for unspecified damages.
Poppinga, who won a Super Bowl with the Packers, played in the NFL from 2005-2012. He finished his pro career with 308 tackles, five sacks, three forced fumbles and two interceptions. Prior to going to the NFL, he was a standout at BYU.
Our thoughts are with the Poppinga family as they continue to deal with the tragic loss of their son.
