The Green Bay Packers have gotten training camp underway this week as they begin preparing for the upcoming 2026 NFL season. The Packers are looking to bounce back after an injury-riddled 2025 season, which ended in the Wild Card round with an ugly collapse against the divisional rival Chicago Bears on the road.
Recently, Zach Kruse of The Packers Wire reported on a development that has emerged in training camp as a result of an injury situation.
“LaFleur says the Packers are working out some long snappers with Matt Orzech (calf) out,” reported Kruse on X, formerly Twitter.
Long snapper is one of the most underrated positions in football in terms of importance, with a player’s snapping ability often or making or breaking their team’s chances of putting the other team deep in their own territory on punts. With Orzech out, it certainly makes sense that the Packers would look to bring in some additional bodies to help fill that void in the meantime.
Orzech is one of several Packers players currently on the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list, including star pass rusher Micah Parsons, who is still recovering from a late-season torn ACL he suffered last year in a game against the Denver Broncos. That injury occurred right around the time that things were starting to fall off the rails for the Packers after their hot start to the season, and the hope is that Parsons will be able to return to the lineup at some point in the early portion of the upcoming campaign.
The Packers are slated to kick off their new season on September 13 with a road game against the Minnesota Vikings.
