Packers to attempt to sign Davante Adams to extension with Aaron Rodgers returning?

Green Bay Packers four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Davante Adams has dropped multiple hints he could leave the team via free agency after the upcoming NFL season, reportedly ended discussions about an extension with the club last week, and suggested via social media that he and quarterback Aaron Rodgers could be on the verge of playing one final season with the Packers.

With Rodgers reportedly closing in on an agreement that would see him return to the Packers for at least the 2021 campaign, ESPN's Adam Schefter tweeted that the team "can make another run at trying to sign" Adams to a new deal:

Adams made Pro Bowl squads every year from 2017 through 2020 catching passes thrown by Rodgers and has evolved into one of the league's best receivers. He recorded 115 catches for 1,374 yards and 18 touchdowns last season and allegedly wishes to become the NFL's highest-paid player at the position.

It's unclear if the Packers would meet that request before the start of the season or if Adams staying in Green Bay is dependent on Rodgers' future. Schefter explained Monday the Packers are willing to help "set up Rodgers’ departure from Green Bay" after the 2021 season per an agreement to get him to report for training camp.
