Packers' Tom Clements: Aaron Rodgers 'doesn’t need reps at this time of the year'

For the second consecutive NFL offseason, Green Bay Packers quarterback and reigning Most Valuable Player Aaron Rodgers is enjoying time away from the organization and allowing 2020 first-round pick Jordan Love to temporarily lead workouts and practice sessions.

Unlike this time last year, however, there's no question about Rodgers' intentions for the upcoming campaign. The future Hall of Famer put pen to paper on a new deal with the Packers in March, and Green Bay also brought former assistant Tom Clements out of retirement to work as quarterbacks coach due largely to his relationship with Rodgers.

"We’ll have to see what the program is like during the OTAs," Clements remarked about the process on Thursday, according to Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk. "I know it’s a little bit different than it was previously when I was here. But Aaron doesn’t need reps at this time of the year. So, obviously, it would be nice to have him here. But he’s seen these things 1,000 times. He’ll be ready to go when training camp starts."

Rodgers did lose All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders following last season, and Gregg Rosenthal of the league's website recently noted the Packers still have plenty of questions at Adams' position. Despite that, Clements isn't concerned about Rodgers' ability to prepare himself for meaningful action later this year.

"He’s at a different stage of his career now where he’s taking care of himself and working on what he thinks he needs to work on physically," Clements said of Rodgers. "He looked good when I saw him, so he’ll be ready to go."

Not for nothing, but Odell Beckham Jr. is still an available free agent.
