The Packers‘ season has been defined by a key trend.
Never was this trend more evident than in Green Bay sleepwalking through a home loss to the Carolina Panthers. After all, earlier this season, the Packers were tripped up against Joe Flacco and the hapless Cleveland Browns in a heartbreaking last-second loss.
Similarly, Green Bay’s season-opener was a bombastic win over the division-rival Detroit Lions that seemed to announce not just Micah Parsons’ presence as a dominant cornerstone of the defense but as the Packers as the team to beat in the NFC North, likewise, Matt LaFleur’s team went on the road and dismantled Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers.
As Week 10 against the Eagles looms, CBS Sports NFL analyst Jared Dubin argues that the Packers playing up to, and down to, their competition could set the stage for an explosive performance on Monday night.
“The Packers have tended to play up or down to their level of competition so far this season,” Dubin writes for CBS Sports. “So I expected to see something resembling the best version of this Green Bay team on Monday night. That means the flying banshee defense we saw in the first two weeks of the season and the efficient, explosive offense we’ve seen when they’ve been at their best so far this year.”
It has been difficult to determine just how seriously to take the Packers given their inconsistent first half of the season, a win over the Eagles would go a long way both towards solidifying Green Bay as a threat in the NFC and reinforcing the notion that this is a team that plays to its level of competition.
