The Green Bay Packers continue to sink meaningful resources into building a dominant offensive line, but one key veteran is in line for a payday.

Offensive tackle Zach Tom is in the midst of a contract standoff, of sorts, with the Packers, and after the 26-year-old took part in the team’s offseason program this spring, one top analyst suggests it’s time for Green Bay to strike a deal and sign Tom to a long-term extension.

“The Packers have both their starting tackles coming to free agency after the 2025 season,” Aaron Schatz writes for ESPN . “Tom and left tackle Rasheed Walker. However, Tom has been the better player, and the Packers drafted a potential replacement for Walker in Anthony Belton this past April.

“Tom ranked 18th in pass block win rate (95.1%) last season among tackles, was above average in run block win rate (75.4%), and has the versatility to play other positions along the line.”

Why Signing Zach Tom to an Extension Makes Sense

As he enters his fourth season, fresh off finishing the 2024 campaign as the No. 4 offensive tackle in the league, according to Pro Football Focus, the Packers could be about to make him one of the highest-paid players at the position.

Tom only allowed three sacks while posting an elite 87.5 grade from Pro Football Focus, combined with a 90 run-blocking mark.

As the Packers continue to build an offense it hopes consists of explosiveness both via the vertical passing game and with running back Josh Jacobs as the focal point on the ground, Tom figures to be a pivotal piece for head coach Matt LaFleur and Co. Tom might be primed to cash in as such, as well.
