Pair of Trench Players Among Colts' Latest Cuts
USA TODAY Sports

The Indianapolis Colts continue their march toward a 53-man roster on Monday by reportedly parting ways with interior offensive lineman Dakoda Shepley and defensive tackle Caleb Sampson.

Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reported on Shepley, and Joel Erickson of The Indianapolis Star reported on Sampson.

Releasing Shepley further shallows the Colts' interior offensive line depth after losing primary backup Danny Pinter to a broken ankle in last week's preseason finale. This is an indicator that the Colts may have their sights set outside the building when it comes to backing up the starting offensive line.

Shepley came into the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of the University of British Columbia in 2018, signing on with the New York Jets. He then went north to the CFL with the Saskatchewan Roughriders (2019) before returning to the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers (2020), Seattle Seahawks (2021), Dallas Cowboys (2022), and then the Colts back in January.

Shepley has seen action in 13 career NFL games and saw 68 snaps in all three of the Colts' preseason games this summer, compiling a grade of 44.9, per Pro Football Focus.

Sampson was a rookie undrafted free agent out of Kansas who was signed by the Colts this spring. Erickson reports there's a chance Sampson lands back on the Colts' practice squad when the season begins.

Sampson saw 49 snaps with the Colts this preseason, appearing in all three games and registering one "stop," per PFF, which is considered a forced failure against the offense

Since the weekend, we have also learned of the Colts cutting the following players in moves on Sunday and Monday:

Kenyan Drake, Breshad Perriman, James Washington, Teez Tabor, Emil Ekiyor, Donavan Mutin, Tyler Adams, Kody Case, Nick Eubanks, Michael Jacobson, Lucas Havrisik, and Matthew Vanderslice.

Stay tuned to Horseshoe Huddle as the Colts continue their cuts.
