It might not always look pretty on the field, but the Carolina Panthers are having their best season in years. They are currently 4-3, holding a winning record for the first time since 2021 and knocking off some tough opponents in the process.
There hasn’t been much to complain about in Carolina, but there is finally some adversity for them to face this season as quarterback Bryce Young injured his ankle during last week’s game against the New York Jets and won’t play today.
It’s a high-ankle sprain for the former No. 1 pick and the team is optimistic that this game against the Buffalo Bills is the only one he’ll miss, but for now Andy Dalton will get the start.
NFL reporter Tom Pelissero announced that the Panthers signed veteran quarterback Mike White to the practice squad in Young’s absence.

Dalton has been with the team for three years now, so the team likely feels more than comfortable with him taking the snaps until their franchise quarterback returns.
But White has an impressive track record as a backup if Carolina has to insert him into the lineup for any reason.
He hasn’t gotten many chances to play in recent years, but he showed the ability to run an offense effectively when he first appeared with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2021.
White is a gunslinger in the truest sense, with a ton of multiple interception games, but also a few multi-touchdown games with high passing totals to combat them.
White likely won’t have to play unless an injury takes place, but he is more than capable of pushing the ball downfield and getting playmakers involved if he needs to.
