When the Carolina Panthers got into the Diontae Johnson business, the idea was to bring additional weapons to make Bryce Young's life easier.

Johnson, who is in a contract year, knows his role. In a recent interview with Joseph Person of The Athletic, Johnson provided more insight regarding what he wants to bring to the table.

"They didn’t really have guys to get open last year," Johnson said to The Athletic. "So me being in this offense is a big impact for him and the rest of the guys around him. So we can all learn from each other, learn from Adam (Thielen). Adam can learn from me. So those little things matter. Everybody getting on the same page, that goes a long way.”

Johnson could have a doctorate in getting open. Before bridges burnt with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Johnson was among the elite wide receivers in creating separation.

Carolina is hoping for the same in 2024. The Panthers drafted Xavier Legette to complement a reshaped wide receiver room. Thielen is a stabilizing presence. Quarterback Bryce Young finally has a head coach who will use him in a modern system. All signs are pointing upward for the Panthers' offense.

As for Johnson's role alongside Legette and Thielen, he believes that he will still be the No. 1 option, he said.

"Obviously, they drafted him to be a big part of this offense, as well," Johnson told The Athletic."So I’m sure they’re gonna do what they do to get him the ball. But I’m just worried about doing my job and getting open and making my plays when they come my way.”
