The Carolina Panthers got off to a bad start to the 2025 season, going 1-3 in the first four games and looking like they were headed for another disappointing year. However, in their last five games, they have gone 4-1 to improve to 5-4 on the campaign.
Carolina's defense has been a key factor in their recent stretch of wins. The team ranks 13th in total defense, and it showed against the Green Bay Packers in Week 9. The Panthers held the Jordan Love-led squad to 1-of-5 in the red zone and forced two turnovers against them, resulting in a 16-13 win.
Now, as the Panthers continue their bid to make the playoffs, the team has made some moves to further improve its defense and add depth to some positions of need.
On Saturday, the Panthers announced that they had signed undrafted rookie defensive tackle Jared Harrison-Hunte from the practice squad to the active roster. Furthermore, they activated wide receiver Dan Chisena from the practice squad to the active roster.
Unfortunately, the signing of Harrison-Hunte meant that the Panthers needed to let someone go to make room for him on the roster. That being said, the team waived veteran quarterback Mike White.
White joined the Panthers' practice squad last October and was elevated to the active roster to provide some depth at QB amid the injuries to starting quarterback Bryce Young and backup Andy Dalton.
As a third-string QB, however, White never got the chance to play for the Panthers.
The Panthers play the New Orleans Saints in Week 10 on Sunday. They will then take a trip to Georgia to play the Atlanta Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Week 11. Sure enough, it will be interesting to see whether the changes they've made will help them maintain their winning run.
