Panthers To Acquire DT TeRah Edwards From Chargers

Another minor trade has been lined up after today’s deadline for roster cuts. Defensive tackle TeRah Edwards is being dealt from the Chargers to the Panthers, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports.

In exchange, Los Angeles will receive a 2028 sixth-round pick (h/t ESPN’s Mike Kaye). Edwards entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2025. He did not see any regular-season game action with the Bolts last season but signed a reserve/futures contract after the campaign ended. Carolina will take on Edwards’ $885K salary for this season.

After spending spring practices and all of training camp with the Chargers, Edwards appeared to be in line to at least contend for a practice squad spot following roster cuts. Instead, he will be on the move shortly before the start of the season. This marks the Bolts’ second Sunday trade, with the team having also dealt cornerback Avery Smith to the Seahawks prior to their 53-man roster announcement.

Carolina’s defensive tackle depth chart is set to once again be led by Derrick Brown and Tershawn Wharton this season. The latter has spent all of training camp on the Panthers’ active/PUP list, however, while recovering from neck surgery. This Edwards addition could be aimed at providing a bit of healthy depth along the defensive interior at least until Wharton is back in the fold.
