Former Indianapolis Colts punter Pat McAfee has made a very successful career in the sports media world since hanging up his cleats. His sense of humor, experience playing in the NFL, and connections he's built throughout his career have turned his business into a juggernaut in this industry.
His show goes way beyond just the NFL at this point, as he covers every major event in the sports world. This includes the College World Series, which just had a legendary performance occur. And McAfee had a hilarious joke that roped in the Colts on the endeavor.
Gage Wood is an absolute monster of the mound.. @Colts, sign this guy. He can do something
— Pat McAfee (@PatMcAfeeShow) June 16, 2025
Arkansas pitcher Gage Wood put on an absolute masterclass on Monday against Murray State in the 2025 Men's College World Series. He finished the game with a no-hitter, and if it weren't for hitting one batter, he would have had a perfect game. Throwing a no hitter is a dream for every pitcher, and to do it in the College World Series only adds to this moment. McAfee joked that the Colts should sign Wood due to how incredible he was in that game.
The Colts obviously have a significant question mark at QB, and multiple top NFL QBs also had successful college careers in baseball. Wood is listed at 6'0 and 205 LBs on Arkansas' website, which makes him a bit small to consider playing that position. And I think it's safe to say he is good enough at his current sport that he won't be considering making a jump to football anytime soon. But you gotta give it up to McAfee, to find a way to bring the Colts into a moment this big, even if it was just a joke. Not many teams have someone as big in media as McAfee to bring them into the national spotlight. Especially when that's not something that comes easily for a market like Indianapolis.
