What's going on between Pat McAfee and Adam Schefter?
A shocking report by the Athletic's Andrew Marchand on Thursday detailed that McAfee has "essentially banned ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter" from his daily talk program, “The Pat McAfee Show" since March.
"Sources said that the main issue stemmed from one incident. One afternoon, McAfee wanted Schefter on his program. Schefter was appearing on an ESPN2 free agency special and was unable to make it. Schefter, formerly a McAfee Show regular, has been banished ever since," Marchand wrote.
So instead of Schefter, McAfee has recently been welcoming NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport on the show instead.
ESPN's president of content Burke Magnus responded to this report in a statement.
“Pat and his show are thriving on ESPN,” Magnus said. “We are very pleased with the partnership. That said, in the nearly three years since Pat has brought his show to our platforms, we’ve continuously seen those out there that are seemingly obsessed with wanting to see Pat fail on ESPN. This rumor is just the latest example of that. Pat and his show continue to break the mold and reach new audiences, and we look forward to the continued success together.”
McAfee has also reacted to it all.
“I learned a lot about my business this morning in another article,” McAfee said on his show. “Seems like that happens all the time. I don’t know if it’s just normal, par for the course, I guess it’s just life these days. There’s so many of them it’s hard to keep track of, but when that rat writes something, it is nice to just be like: ‘Well that’s bullsh**,’ immediately.”
And he had the perfect introduction for Schefter when the NFL Insider returned to the McAfee show on Thursday, on the same day that this report dropped.
“Joining us now: a banned man,” McAfee joked.
And Schefter poked fun at the situation too.
“Pat, as I was saying when I was so rudely interrupted three months ago,” he joked. “Aaron Rodgers is gonna sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers."
