Heading into the 2018 NFL season, one thing was certain: it would take decades to witness a level of greatness similar to that of Tom Brady. Fast-forward a few years down the road, and that sentiment has changed due to Patrick Mahomes. The Kansas City Chiefs’ star has made Brady’s feat of achieving seven Super Bowls and five Super Bowl MVPs seem achievable.
It was evident that Mahomes is here to surpass Brady. The quarterback has achieved more than his peers at the age of 29. He ranks second to Brady in terms of most playoff wins in NFL history. From a fan’s perspective, Brady has every reason to root against Mahomes, but the retired star sees things differently.
Brady has helped Mahomes over the years, giving him advice on the dos and don’ts of the trade. After a remarkable 15-2 regular season run, the Chiefs nearly won their third consecutive Super Bowl, but the Eagles played spoilsport to their championship aspirations.
The loss took a toll on Kansas City, and Mahomes, in particular, was heavily criticized after the game. He spent most of the off-season away from the limelight, getting a fresh haircut and vacationing in Miami with his wife.
The three-time Super Bowl champion reached out to Brady to seek his advice. The duo bonded and strengthened their relationship, as revealed by Mahomes.
I’ve actually talked to Tom a good amount this off-season. It’s cool that he wants to give me advice, but he didn’t have to be like that. He’s such a good dude, and I have so much respect for him. I’ll take any advice he gives me…He always talks about being yourself, he thinks that guys can spot when you’re not authentic and not putting in the work. That’s something that he did every single day. That’s why guys respect him so much…
Patrick Mahomes revealed on the Up & Adams Show
The quarterback is following the same philosophy as the GOAT and continues to set the standard for his teammates by putting in the work himself. His work ethic inspires those around him, encouraging them to work twice as hard.
As he heads into year 9, Mahomes has become the most-hated quarterback in the NFL. Perhaps not as hated as Deshaun Watson, but number 15’s success and achievements in just eight seasons as a starter have been remarkable, and that has resulted in the fan bases of the remaining 31 teams uniting on social media to take jibes at Mahomes and the Chiefs.
Kansas City’s narrow victories during the 2024 regular season irked fans. Mahomes began to be viewed as the golden child or poster boy of the NFL, one who is protected by the NFL’s referee crew and gets all the favorable calls. The star quarterback, however, remains unfazed by the hate.
Sounds like Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes have developed quite the relationship this offseason…@heykayadams | @PatrickMahomes pic.twitter.com/dvvyI9rGCE

The outcome of last season has not changed his attitude or perspective. He continues to follow his approach of focusing on one day at a time.
At the end of the day, it is about taking it a day at a time…that’s something I’ve been conscious of, of knowing how blessed I am to be in Kansas City…
Mahomes responded to Adams’ question about his legacy.
Recently, Brady picked Mahomes to be his ‘heir apparent.’ The seven-time Super Bowl champion named the Kansas City star as one player worthy of eclipsing his accomplishments. He looks up to Brady despite having been a part of the NFL for nearly a decade. While Brady’s loyal fan base would scoff at any mention of Mahomes and his greatness, the man himself continues to root for number 15.
