Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs Dealt Concerning Development After Cowboys Game

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs made three straight Super Bowls and entered the 2025 season with hopes of a fourth consecutive trip.

However, the Chiefs are entering December 1 with a 6-6 record and outside of the current AFC playoff picture.

The Chiefs lost the first two games of the year to the Los Angeles Chargers and the Philadelphia Eagles.

They then rattled off five wins in the next six games before losing two in a row to the Buffalo Bills and Denver Broncos.

The Chiefs beat the Indianapolis Colts, but they lost to the Dallas Cowboys, 31-28, on Thanksgiving Day to drop to .500.

On top of that, the Chiefs suffered some key injuries on Thanksgiving, with offensive lineman Jawaan Taylor and Josh Simmons leaving the game early.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid revealed the team has to go with the "next man up" approach with the latest injury blow.

In Week 14, the Chiefs face the Houston Texans on "Sunday Night Football," but the status of Taylor and Simmons received an update on Sunday, via Matt Verderame of Sports Illustrated.

"I’m told that while the Chiefs expect Josh Simmons to be out long-term with his wrist injury, that’s not the case with RT Jawaan Taylor. Taylor, who sustained a triceps injury on Thursday, could play next week vs. the Texans depending on how he feels throughout this week."

The news of Taylor potentially being ready is good news, but the concerning part is the status of Simmons.

He was selected at No. 32 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft after playing for the Ohio State Buckeyes, and he has had a strong rookie year.

According to Pro Football Focus, Simmons has just eight penalties and two sacks this year, so he has been a bright spot of the offensive line for Kansas City.

Now, all signs point to him being out long-term, and it could be a costly blow as Kansas City fights for a playoff spot.
