Patrick Mahomes’ Comment on Jayden Daniels Draws Attention

The Kansas City Chiefs are set to play the Washington Commanders in an AFC-NFC showdown on Monday night.

The Chiefs come into the game with a 4-3 record after losing their first two games of the season. They've been figuring it out as the season has gone on and are also 3-1 inside Arrowhead Stadium.

They will face a Commanders team without star quarterback Jayden Daniels. He's currently dealing with a hamstring injury after he got hurt against the Dallas Cowboys last Sunday. The Commanders lost that game in blowout fashion, 44-22.

Marcus Mariota will start in place of Daniels as the Commanders try and avoid falling to 3-5 overall. Unfortunately, fans won't get to see Daniels go toe-to-toe against Mahomes, and the latter is disappointed by that.

"Yeah, I mean, you want to go up against the best of the best, and Jayden, with the way that he played last year, man, he’s in that category. He's a talented football player I've watched played since he was at Arizona State to LSU and to now in the NFL," Mahomes said on Thursday, per The Athletic's Nicki Jhabvala. "Kliff speaks very highly of him, as a person. I hope he gets healthy sooner rather than later, but at the same time, I know Marcus can play, too. I've seen it firsthand at Arrowhead in the playoffs. I've seen him play throughout my entire career and have a lot of successful games, including this year. We understand it's still going to be a great challenge going up against a great football team and a guy that has had a lot of success in the NFL."

The Chiefs-Commanders contest will be the only "Monday Night Football" game this week. Kickoff will be at 8:15 p.m. ET on ESPN/ABC.
