Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes played in the Super Bowl with a heavy heart. That's because one of his family members wasn't doing very well.
Before the Chiefs took the field for Super Bowl 59, Mahomes' mother Randi revealed that her father was in hospice care. Fast forward to this Friday, and she had a heartbreaking update to share with the Kansas City community. Her father has passed away. She posted a tribute to him moments ago.
"Hard to find the words of holding my fathers hand as he goes to Heaven. I know he’s in a better place. I love you daddy. Well done, good and faithful servant," Randi Mahomes wrote on Instagram.
Mahomes has not yet released a statement on his grandfather's death. Of course, he's not obligated to talk about his personal life with the media.
Immediately after seeing this news, Chiefs fans sent their thoughts and prayers to the Mahomes family.
"Prayers for you and your family. Very sorry for your loss," one person wrote.
"Prayers to you and your family. So very sorry," another person commented.
Mahomes' grandfather was struggling with health concerns throughout the 2024 NFL season.
Back in September, Mahomes' grandfather entered the hospital for an undisclosed reason. His mother posted this message on social media at that time: "Prayer warriors please pray for my daddy. He is in the hospital and is not well."
We can't imagine how difficult the past few months have been for Randi and her family. Perhaps she'll take peace in knowing her father is no longer suffering.
It also helps that all of Chiefs Kingdom is rallying around Mahomes' mother. They know how important her father was to her.
Our thoughts are with the Mahomes family.
