It looked like Rashee Rice was on his way to having a special sophomore season with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2024. Unfortunately, Rice suffered a knee injury in a Week 4 game against the Chargers and missed the rest of the year, which was a devastating blow to the Chiefs offense.

After being out of the game since late September though, Rice appears to be on the verge of making his triumphant return. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes was asked about what he saw in Rice's progress from returning from the injury and couldn't help but praise one of his favorite targets.

"He looks like Rashee. Obviously, having the injury sucked. But it happening so early in the season, he was back around when the offseason started. … There's no limitations. He's out there playing."

Patrick Mahomes just gave Rashee Rice update Chiefs fans have waited for

The Chiefs spent a second-round pick on Rice in the 2023 draft after he balled out at SMU in college. He finished his rookie campaign with 79 receptions for 938 yards and seven touchdowns in 16 games (and eight starts), proving that he could be a massive weapon for Mahomes and the offense.

The playoffs also went quite well for Rice, as the rookie tallied 26 catches for 262 yards and a score in his four playoff starts. He went off in the wild card win over Miami in frigid temperatures, catching eight passes for 130 yards and a touchdown. Chiefs fans had already been excited by what they saw from Rice but putting up those kinds of numbers in the playoffs just means more, as some players completely disappear in those big moments.

If Mahomes is psyched about what he's seen from Rice as he works his way back from injury, fans should be stoked as well. The SMU product was on the verge of having a monumental year in 2024 before he was injured and while Xavier Worthy eventually stepped it up and helped Mahomes out, just imagine if both of them had been healthy and playing at that level.

Hopefully, fans won't have to imagine in 2025. Hopefully, Rice, Worthy, and Hollywood Brown can all stay healthy and form the best wide receiver trio that Mahomes has seen during his time in the league.
