Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes returned to Texas to receive a very special honor on Saturday night.

Mahomes, along with eight other inductees, joined the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame on May 10. During his senior year at Whitehouse High School, he led the Wildcats to an undefeated season. The Tyler, Texas native threw for 4,619 yards and 50 touchdowns, along with 948 rushing yards and 15 scores.

Mahomes, a dual-sport athlete, also pitched a no-hitter with 16 strikeouts during his senior year.

"I never thought I was going to be an NFL football player," the three-time Super Bowl MVP said during the ceremony in Waco. "My goal growing up was to win a district championship in Whitehouse, Texas and my senior year, we were able to do that."

"And I still remember the play, the quarterback sweep to the right," he recalled of John Tyler's game-winning touchdown. "Those are the moments I'll forever remember."

The 29-year-old quarterback, a three-star recruit out of high school, noted how he's still close friends with his former Wildcat teammates. He's also married to his high school sweetheart, Brittany Mahomes, with whom he shares three children.

Mahomes, who's experienced immense success both on and off the field, also makes sure to give back. The Texas Tech alum announced that he’s partnering with Adidas to provide custom jerseys to 15 high school teams across the county, including Whitehouse.

Brittany briefly joined Mahomes near the stage to show off the collaborative jersey. The No. 10 overall pick from the 2017 NFL draft earned a round of applause following his announcement.

One fan commented, "Always good to see players using their resources to help others. The league is in great hands." One woman posted, "Absolutely awesome. Way to be, Patrick."
