Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered a season-ending injury against the Los Angeles Chargers during their Week 15 game. The two-time NFL MVP tore his left ACL and LCL, requiring surgery.

Mahomes, who has recorded 22 passing touchdowns and five rushing scores this 2025 season, underwent surgery on Monday. The operation was performed by Dallas Cowboys head physician and renowned orthopedic surgeon Dan Cooper.

The Chiefs have since placed Mahomes on the injured reserve, with the 30-year-old signal-caller already starting his rehab as well. According to Chiefs vice president of sports medicine and performance Rick Burkholder, Mahomes' recovery timeline is expected to be nine months, though it could be a month or two less or more, per USA Today.

Now, as Mahomes enters his rehab journey, his mother, Randi Mahomes, showed her appreciation for everyone who has shown their support for her son.

"Thank you all for the prayers and kind messages for Patrick. We truly appreciate every one of them," the Mahomes matriarch wrote, while sharing about her recent "Home for the Holidays" event for the Kansas City community.

In another post, this time on her Instagram Stories, she wrote, "Thank you for lifting Patrick up in prayer. We're so thankful for this community."

The Chiefs are already out of playoff contention, with the loss to the Chargers being the final nail in the coffin that secured their fate. It's the first time in the Mahomes era that Kansas City failed to make the playoffs.

Andy Reid's men had also reached the Super Bowl five times in the last six seasons, winning three.

Despite the unfortunate turn of events, the good news now is that Mahomes is on track to return to full health when the 2026 NFL season comes around.
