Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are gearing up for the 2025 NFL season, eyeing their fourth Super Bowl ring since 2019.
With several key starters returning in 2025, including tight end Travis Kelce and defensive tackle Chris Jones, the Chiefs are expected to remain strong Super Bowl contenders. That shouldn't be a surprise, as Kansas City has reached the AFC Championship Game every year since Mahomes became the starting quarterback in 2018.
To begin preparation for the upcoming season, the Chiefs finished off their voluntary organized team activities (OTAs) on Friday. And on Tuesday, Kansas City began its mandatory minicamp, with both Mahomes and Kelce in attendance.
After the first practice session, the Chiefs posted a slow-motion video on Instagram of Mahomes slinging a touchdown pass to wide receiver Juju Smith-Schuster. The former Pittsburgh Steelers wideout had to grab the ball while falling out of the back of the endzone, barely getting both feet inbounds.
"9 was 10 toes down ↕️," the Chiefs captioned their post.
Mahomes reacted to the play by reposting the video onto his Instagram Story without any caption.
Smith-Schuster started his career with the Steelers in 2018, spending five seasons there before joining the Chiefs in 2022. That year, he recorded 78 catches for 933 yards and three touchdowns.
For his play, Smith-Schuster earned a three-year, $33 million contract with the New England Patriots during the 2023 offseason, but spent one year there before parting ways. Smith-Schuster rejoined Kansas City on a one-year deal in 2024 and signed another one-year deal with the team in 2025.
Mahomes and the Chiefs will kick off the regular season on Friday, Sept. 5, with a Week 1 battle against the Los Angeles Chargers in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
