Kansas City Chiefs star Chris Jones admitted after Sunday’s 37-20 win over the Baltimore Ravens that he was “overcome with emotions.”

The three-time All-Pro defensive tackle nearly missed the game after leaving Kansas City to attend a funeral. Jones, however, made it back in time to help Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs secure their second straight win and improve to 2-2.

“It’s all out of love,” Jones said after the game. “Those are my brothers. I love being around them. … They were very supportive through this whole process.”

Jones deserves a lot of credit here for opting to return for Sunday’s game after the funeral. As head coach Andy Reid stated after the win, football “becomes secondary when you start dealing with life an death.”

Surely, the Chiefs would not have taken it against Jones if he had taken the game off on Sunday. However, it was important for the 31-year-old to return and help his team to victory.

Mahomes had a strong reaction to Jones’ decision to play despite his current situation. According to the two-time AP MVP quarterback, Jones inspired the entire squad with his actions.

"I think it made guys want to step up and play hard for him,” Mahomes said after Sunday’s win, via Harold R. Kuntz of FOX4 News Kansas City. “It speaks to the brotherhood we have in the locker room."

Jones reportedly left Kansas City on Saturday after the team’s morning walkthrough. He returned on Sunday, right before the game. This speaks volumes about his commitment to the team, which has not gone unnoticed by Mahomes and the rest of the squad.

While Jones anchored Kansas City’s defense against Baltimore, it was Mahomes who once again led the charge on the offensive end. The two-time All-Pro QB completed 25-of-37 passes for 270 yards and four touchdowns in what was his best performance of the season thus far.

Mahomes, Jones and the rest of the Chiefs will now want to carry over their momentum to their next game. This comes in the form of a Week 5 matchup on the road against the 3-1 Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday, Oct. 6.
