Patrick Mahomes isn’t one to dwell on a loss for long, but the sting of falling short in last season’s Super Bowl against the Eagles clearly hasn’t faded.
While speaking to reporters this week, the Chiefs quarterback offered a glimpse into where his head is at heading into the offseason—and how he plans to bounce back.
“I don’t feel like we got to the goal that we wanted to,” Mahomes admitted. “I think the injuries definitely affected it a little bit, but my goal is to be better and try to give guys chances down the field.”

Kansas City’s offense looked out of sync at times last season, especially with so much turnover at wide receiver. But Mahomes isn’t dwelling on what went wrong—he’s focusing on what’s next.
“Obviously, everything looks great right now,” he said. “I mean, getting the guys back healthy as far as Rashee (Rice) and having Hollywood (Brown) fully healthy and Xavier (Worthy) in year two – I think the offense has the chance to be really, really good.”
Mahomes pointed to the second half of the Super Bowl loss as a personal turning point, where he was reminded of what the Chiefs’ offense has always done best—taking shots.
“If you look at the only real positive from the Super Bowl, it was the second half of me just kind of getting back to, we have to throw the ball deep, we have to push the envelope,” Mahomes said. “You saw Xavier (Worthy) making some big plays down the field.”
With a healthy core and a focused mindset, Mahomes is already dialed in for a redemption run. And if history is any indicator, that’s a scary sight for the rest of the NFL.
