Patrick Mahomes Sends Message About Tyreek Hill on Thursday

Patrick Mahomes and Tyreek Hill formed one of the NFL’s most productive quarterback-receiver duos during their time with the Kansas City Chiefs, helping the franchise to a Super Bowl title in the 2019 season. From 2018 to 2021, Hill caught 331 passes for 4,638 yards and 46 touchdowns from Mahomes, while the quarterback posted 17,254 passing yards and 143 touchdowns with a 106.0 passer rating in games Hill played.

Their connection was central to Kansas City’s success. Considering how they thrived together as a duo, it was no surprise when talk of a possible reunion surfaced amid the Chief’s offensive struggles at the start of the season.

On Monday night, however, those speculations were shut down for good. During the Miami Dolphins’ game against the New York Jets, Hill went down with a dislocated knee and tore his ACL. His season was later confirmed to be over: the Dolphins star underwent surgery and will now be expected to return sometime in late 2026 (via NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport).

On Thursday, Mahomes was asked about the unfortunate incident and confirmed he had held conversations with Hill after his injury, offering his prayers and wishing him safe recovery.

“I talked to him a little bit… more than anything sending prayers his way,” Mahomes said. I know how hard he works. I’m excited to watch his comeback now. Obviously, praying for him and his family” (h/t Charles Goldman of A to Z Sports).

Hill was traded to the Dolphins in 2022 after six seasons with the Chiefs. Since his departure, the Chiefs returned to the Super Bowl three consecutive times, winning back-to-back titles in 2022 and 2023. The Dolphins, however, were eliminated in the Wild Card round in Hill’s first season and missed the playoffs last year.

The injury ends any short-term reunion speculation between the two, which had grown louder at the start of the season. Attention now turns to Hill’s recovery and how Miami adjusts without its star wideout, while Mahomes will hope to get the Chiefs in the win column for the first time this season when they face the 3-1 Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.
