Patrick Mahomes shuts down Chiefs fans' dream of Olympic flag football gold

The Kansas City Chiefs may get a chance to add a few Olympic gold medals to their franchise's ever-growing trophy case in the next few years, as the NFL has recently passed a provision that will allow their players to compete in the flag football portion of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Naturally, when everyone was quick to devise their ideal flag football team, many were penciling in Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes as the quarterback for this newly formed unit. However, Mahomes doesn't seem overly enticed by the idea of playing the role of American team captain.

Mahomes, when asked about the possibility of suiting up for Team USA in the Olympics, seemingly turned down the opportunity. He did, however, recommend that many of his younger teammates suit up to fill the roster out.

The NFL will have no shortage of qualified quarterbacks who might be willing to take a chance in participating in these games, but it looks like the league's biggest star has no interest in suiting up for his country.

Mahomes' skill set seems like a natural fit for flag football, irrespective of his past success. Anyone with his ability to stretch the field in a game that is all about striking quickly will thrive in such a fast-paced environment. Even with the USA being heavy prohibitive favorites, Mahomes would have added a degree of spark to proceedings that might be missing.

Perhaps Chiefs fans will need to hope some of their young skill position players will suit up for their country, as they seem to claim a gold medal that will almost assuredly fall into their laps. Maybe someone like Xavier Worthy or Isiah Pacheco managed to earn a selection to the team.

As fun as it would be to see Mahomes galavanting around a flag football field and throwing darts all over the place, Kansas City fans must accept the fact that they will be bitterly disappointed in fearless leader conceding the privilege to play in this game to his younger teammates.
