Patrick Mahomes suffers significant drop in 'Madden 26' QB ratings

"Madden 26" is set to release on Aug. 14, and to build anticipation, they've begun releasing player ratings.

It started with the 99 club, as quarterbacks Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen, wide receivers Ja'Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson, running back Saquon Barkley, offensive tackle Lane Johnson and defensive end Myles Garrett all received the honor.

On Thursday, the top 10 player ratings at each position were revealed, and of course, quarterbacks drew most of the attention.

It was already known that Jackson and Allen were the two highest-ranked QBs, but it turns out that three-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes didn't even rank third at the position. Cincinnati Bengals superstar Joe Burrow came in ahead of him with a 97 rating, while Mahomes fell to 95 after being a part of the 99 club the previous two years.

While still widely regarded as the best player in football, there is no sugarcoating that Mahomes' stats have fallen off quite a bit over the last two seasons.

The 29-year-old failed to reach 30 passing touchdowns in both 2023 and 2024, a mark he surpassed with ease in all of his other seasons aside from 2019, when he missed time due to injury.

He's seen his passing yards per game drop substantially, too, resulting in the two lowest QBRs of his career these past two years.

Mahomes already had the chip of losing in the Super Bowl on his shoulder heading into 2025-26, and he now has this to add even more fuel to the fire. A motivated Mahomes, paired with a healthy wide receiver group, could lead to a bounce-back campaign that sees the Chiefs' superstar return to putting up huge numbers.

It's also quite interesting to see Super Bowl LIX MVP Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles rank eighth on the list, behind Jared Goff of the Detroit Lions and tied with Justin Herbert of the Los Angeles Chargers.

These guys likely don't care about where they stand in the EA Madden video game, though there's no question they'll feel somewhat slighted seeing who landed ahead of them in 2026.
