Patrick Surtain: Broncos have 'different energy' with Russell Wilson as quarterback

Unsurprisingly, individuals associated with the Denver Broncos cannot stop singing the praises of newly acquired quarterback Russell Wilson this spring. 

Star wide receiver Courtland Sutton said last week that "the juice is just different" with Wilson on the roster, and left tackle Garett Bolles later compared the one-time Super Bowl champion to NBA greats Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, and Michael Jordan. 

Cornerback Patrick Surtain admitted when speaking on Tuesday that the team's goal with Wilson under center is to win the Super Bowl next February. 

"You can tell the energy’s been different. The culture is different," Surtain explained, according to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. 

On paper, Wilson is unquestionably the best signal-caller the Broncos have had since Hall of Famer Peyton Manning guided the franchise to a victory over the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50, his last game. Denver hasn't made the playoffs since that historic day and most recently had veteran Teddy Bridgewater and 2019 second-round draft pick Drew Lock atop the depth chart, and the expectation is that Wilson will prove to be a significant upgrade over both of those options later this year.
