Stefon Diggs and the New England Patriots face the Atlanta Falcons in Week 9. They look to stay hot with a five-game winning streak, most recently defeating the Cleveland Browns.
Diggs was targeted five times, hauling in three receptions for 14 yards and his first touchdown with New England. In his first season with the Patriots, he's emerging as one of the top options for quarterback Drake Maye.
At 6-2, they're looking to win the AFC East for the first time since 2019. Despite not missing any games, though, the four-time Pro Bowler receiver has been dealing with several injuries. He was on the team's Week 7 and Week 8 injury reports with a chest injury.
However, he is now dealing with something new. On Wednesday, the Patriots announced their first Week 9 injury report, listing Diggs as a limited participant from an ankle injury.
Through eight games this season, the four-time Pro Bowler leads New England in targets (49), receptions (42) and yards (470) with one touchdown.
"He’s a receiver that’s easy to throw to," Maye said of Diggs following the team's Week 4 win over the Buffalo Bills. "He's got great hands. He can catch it in different ways with his body. He turns with the football and can make people miss very easily. It's very natural."
The Falcons' defense, though, ranks first in passing yards per game allowed (149.1). That adds more pressure for Diggs to be available as Maye's top weapon.
The Patriots have two more practices before taking on Atlanta, and whether Diggs's ankle injury can progress in the right direction will be a key indicator of his ability to suit up.
