The "Sunday Night Football" game during NFL wild-card weekend will feature an AFC clash in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The No. 2 seed New England Patriots, AFC East champions, will host the No. 7 seed Los Angeles Chargers, the final wild-card team out of the AFC West. The game kicks off from Gillette Stadium at 8 p.m. ET on Sunday and will be broadcast on NBC and Peacock.

With the game taking place outdoors in New England, the weather forecast will play a role in whether Drake Maye's Patriots or Justin Herbert's Chargers advance to the divisional round of the 2025 NFL playoffs. Here is what to expect from the conditions for the wild-card game.

Sunday’s forecast calls for morning showers followed by partly cloudy skies as night falls in Foxborough. The high temperature is 42 degrees, dropping to a low of 25 at night. The hourly forecast predicts the kickoff temperature to be 33 degrees with a 6% chance of precipitation, according to The Weather Channel.

After multiple days of rain throughout the week and possible showers Sunday morning, the artificial turf at Gillette Stadium could be a little slick. Other than that, the weather poses little concern for the Patriots-Chargers game. In fact, the temperature range is about 5 degrees warmer than the typical January averages in Foxborough.

The weather report is good news for both coaches and for football fans, who should be able to watch a contest between two of the NFL's best quarterbacks unrestricted by the weather.

"I look forward to being here at home," Maye said last week of the comfort of Foxborough. "We've got a great fan base; we've got a great squad."

Although the Chargers are a warm-weather team who play its home games indoors at SoFi Stadium, Herbert will be unfazed by the cold-weather road playoff game in the Northeast. He has a 2-0 record at Gillette Stadium in his NFL career, winning games there in December of the 2023 and 2024 seasons.

Herbert battled injuries throughout the year, but he recorded 3,727 passing yards, 26 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He rushed for 498 yards and two touchdowns.

Maye finished the regular season with 4,394 passing yards, 31 touchdowns and eight interceptions, contributing 450 rushing yards and four TDs on the ground.
