Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore open to one-year jump in salary?

A report surfaced earlier on Monday that four-time Pro Bowl cornerback Stephon Gilmore and the New England Patriots still aren't close to putting pen to paper on a contract extension after the 30-year-old stayed away from mandatory minicamp last month amid his desire for a new deal.

Per Michael Giardi of NFL Network, however, Gilmore is willing to "take a one-year jump in salary" to return to the club before veterans report to training camp July 27.

Gilmore earned 2019 Defensive Player of the Year honors but is still recovering from a December surgery to repair a partially torn quadriceps. He is in the final year of his contract and recently said he wants to be paid what he believes he's worth.

According to Justin Leger of NBC Sports Boston, Gilmore will be fined $50,000 for every day of training camp he doesn't attend if he plans to continue his holdout through next week, so it would behoove both parties to come to terms on at least a short-term solution so everyone involved can concentrate on preparing for the upcoming campaign.
