Both Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman and head coach Nick Sirianni recently addressed the ongoing trade rumors regarding wide receiver A.J. Brown by mentioning that Brown is currently an Eagles player. However, neither Roseman nor Sirianni guaranteed that Brown will remain with the NFC East club through the start of the 2026 season.
Since even before the 2025 campaign came to an end, numerous stories have linked Brown with the New England Patriots. On Monday, Patriots executive vice president of player personnel/de facto general manager Eliot Wolf had multiple opportunities to discuss Brown's future.
"A.J. Brown is a member of the Eagles, as Howie mentioned," Wolf said during an appearance on the FanDuel TV "Up & Adams" program, per Mark Daniels of MassLive. "We haven’t had any conversations about anything regarding that in a long time."
While the Patriots signed veteran receiver Romeo Doubs earlier in free agency, New England reportedly could still be in the market for a WR1 over the next few months. On Monday, Daniels asked Wolf if the Patriots had moved on from a possible trade for Brown.
"I mean, again, we’ll look at any player that we think might have a chance to improve our team," Wolf responded. "You know, whether they’re - again, can’t talk about players on other teams, but we’re still trying to improve the roster."
Reporters continue to suggest that the Eagles likely won't trade Brown before June 1 for reasons related to the salary cap. Meanwhile, Brown seems to have a good relationship with Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel stemming from when Vrabel was Brown's head coach with the Tennessee Titans from 2019 through the 2021 season.
Wolf is confident that quarterback and 2025 MVP finalist Drake Maye can make those around him better, but that doesn't necessarily mean New England doesn't want to find a like-for-like replacement for departed receiver Stefon Diggs.
"I mean, you always want to have good players at every position," Wolf told Daniels. "I wouldn’t say, because we have Drake, that we’re looking to have worse players at receiver. So, yeah, again, if there’s a player that’s available - free agency, waiver wire, trade, draft, whatever it is that has a chance to help improve our roster? We’re going to look at that."
It sounds like Wolf will be willing to remain open for business as it pertains to landing Brown or another big-name target for Maye through the offseason. According to reports, Roseman may want a first-round draft pick and a second-round selection in return for Brown.
