Admittedly, this isn’t the most exciting roster news. On Monday, the Patriots announced a contract extension with punter Jake Bailey. Bailey’s new deal is a four-year contract extension that will pay the former All-Pro team member $13.5 million. The 25 year-old punter is a former 5th round draft pick out of Stanford University. While at Stanford, Bailey earned two consecutive All-Pac 12 Team honors in 2017 and 2018.

Since joining the Patriots in 2019, Bailey has twice finished in the top 10 for average yards per punt. He’s also landed in the top 5 for longest punt in both 2020 and 2021. Bailey’s new deal will keep him in New England through 2025. He commented on his new contract Monday morning at training camp:

“I’m just so happy and blessed I get a few more years here,” said Bailey following the practice, confirming the deal had been finalized. “I was just kind of on the phone with my agent and I was like, ‘Alright, that’s it. We’re good with that,’ and it wasn’t like a crazy big moment. But it was fine and a huge milestone in my life and just thankful God put me in this position.”
A strong special teams unit has always been a point of emphasis for Bill Belichick, and Bailey’s extension will bolster this unit for years to come.
