The New England Patriots will be without one of their promising young playmakers for an extended stretch.
According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, second-year running back TreVeyon Henderson is expected to miss time after suffering a high ankle sprain.
Henderson was injured during Sunday's win over the Las Vegas Raiders, and the extent of that is now known.
The good news for New England is that Henderson's injury will not require surgery, and if he progresses the way the team believes he should, he will be back on the field sooner rather than later.

Henderson did not play Week 1 due to injury, so Week 2 was his season debut. He performed well in that game, carrying 16 times for 76 yards with a touchdown.
Since then, though, Henderson has carried 26 times for 87 yards with no touchdowns. Just one week after his stellar performance in his season debut, Henderson saw his carries cut in half from 16 to eight.
His playing time situation has been a bit odd to see, and it is the second consecutive season in which it has happened under head coach Mike Vrabel. Henderson struggled to get playing time early last season, despite the entire organization raving about his abilities as a player.

With the loss of Henderson for at least the next 2-3 games, New England's depth chart lists Corey Kiner as the man who will insert into the backup role behind starter Rhamondre Stevenson.
Kiner is a second-year man with just 32 total carries, meaning that it is entirely possible he does not see much playing time at all. That would leave a majority of the workload on Stevenson, a sixth-year player with nearly 900 carries in his career.
In Week 6, New England will face a New York Jets defense that ranks fourth in total defense but is vulnerable in the ground game, ranking 19th in rushing yards per game allowed. Expect a heavy workload from Stevenson, with Kiner periodically thrown into the mix.
