Netflix's new show "Receiver" dropped on Wednesday, with fans finally getting an inside glimpse into the lives of some of the top weapons in the NFL. The streaming service released "Quarterback," which had a lot of success so they decided to try something a little different.
When the show begins, it's legendary quarterback Payton Manning who starts by giving a dramatic voiceover.
"They say there's not a more difficult position in sports than NFL quarterback," Manning says. "But the truth is throwing a pass is only half the story."
"With all due respect to offensive lineman, a quarterback's best friend is this guy: the receiver," Manning adds.
However, the show is no longer about quarterbacks. It's about receivers, so one of the best in the game cuts Manning off and takes over.
"Peyton, Peyton, Peyton — this show is about receivers right? I love you and all but why don't you pass this season off to me," Randy Moss says. "I promise you, it's in good hands."
And from there, viewers get a fun montage of some of Moss' best plays during his 14 seasons in NFL with the Minnesota Vikings, Las Vegas Raiders (formerly Oakland), New England Patriots, Tennessee Titans and San Francisco 49ers. Specifically, during his four seasons with the Patriots, Moss became a fan-favorite, and was one of Tom Brady's favorite targets.
"It's always funny when people say receivers have one job: catch the ball. When catching the ball is mostly out of our hands. The play call, the protection, the quarterback looking our way - so many things we have no control over have to go right, just for the chance to do our job," Moss said. "No matter how much you train, study, and practice, when the ball is snapped, you can leave the defender in the dust on the perfect route, and have absolutely nothing to show for it.
"Catch the ball, congrats. You are now a moving target. Drop the ball, sorry. You'll never hear the end of it. They call us divas despite our decoy routes. They call us distractions, despite all the damn blocking we do. But no one seems to recognize the one thing we actually are: always open."
The show "Quarterback" followed Kansas City Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes, Atlanta Falcons' Marcus Mariota, and Minnesota Vikings' Kirk Cousins, providing fans with a behind-the scenes look.
And now, it's five other players' turns.
"So this year, we switched it up. Instead of giving quarterback's even more love, we follow five of the league's best past catches throughout the 2023 season," Moss explained.
The show follows Davante Adams (Las Vegas Raiders), Amon-Ra St. Brown (Detroit Lions), Justin Jefferson (Minnesota Vikings), Deebo Samuels (San Francisco 49ers), and George Kittle (San Francisco 49ers).
