Patriots making major roster change that truly shows it's a new era in New England

The New England Patriots are making a major change at center.

ESPN's Mike Reiss reports that the Patriots will release eight-time captain and two-time Super Bowl champion David Andrews on Thursday.

Andrews was sidelined for most of the 2024 season after having shoulder surgery, only appearing in four games. He was set to enter the final year of his contract in 2025.

His tenure with the Patriots is nothing short of amazing, having joined the team as an undrafted free agent in 2015. And if the two Super Bowl championships weren't enough, Andrews also was selected as the center on the Patriots' 2010s All-Decade Team.

He finished his Patriots career having played in 124 regular-season games with 121 starts, along with 12 playoff games where he started 10 of those games.

This week, it's become clear that Mike Vrabel is ushering in a new era in New England.

After the Patriots decided to let cornerback Jonathan Jones and defensive lineman Deatrich Wise test free agency, with both having signed with the Washington Commanders on Wednesday, Andrews, longsnapper Joe Cardona, and linebacker Ja'Whaun Bentley were the only two remaining from the Super Bowl days.

But now, it's just Bentley and Cardona.

As for what the Patriots plan to do at the center position, A to Z Sports predicts that Cole Strange will step into that role. New England also has Ben Brown and Lecitus Smith on the roster.

So, the next question is will Andrews decide to play elsewhere or hang up his cleats?
