TreVeyon Henderson was absent from the Patriots’ Week 8 game. The second-year running back was listed with an illness on the team’s injury report, which remained the case during recent days.
More clarity has emerged regarding Henderson, who is unlikely to suit up in the near future. A statement issued on Friday by the 24-year-old notes how he is currently dealing with a medical issue the underlying cause of which is unknown. Further work aimed at returning to full strength is now forthcoming.
“Recently, I experienced an unexpected and unusual medical emergency involving a series of unexplained neurological symptoms that required hospitalization for several days,” Henderson’s statement reads in part. “During that time, I underwent extensive medical testing and evaluation. While the results of my comprehensive medical testing have come back positive and reassuring, the cause of this remains unknown and unexplainable.
“I will continue working closely with specialists and physical therapists to focus on my recovery, as these symptoms have affected my strength, coordination, and some of my physical functions. I am committed to doing everything necessary to return to full health.”
Henderson, taken in the second round of last year’s draft, recorded 1,132 scrimmage yards and scored 10 total touchdowns as a rookie. He has seen his playing time and production drop through six appearances so far in 2026. New England has leaned on veteran Rhamondre Stevenson while also giving a look to second-year back Corey Kiner as a depth option. Those two will be in position to continue handling most of New England’s RB duties unless an addition is made ahead of next week’s trade deadline. Head coach Mike Vrabel’s connection with Derrick Henry has led to the Patriots being floated as a potential landing spot if the Ravens elect to trade him.
Henderson’s rookie contract runs through 2028. The Ohio State product thus has plenty of time to resume his playing career once his medical situation is resolved. With no timeline present in that regard, though, it remains to be seen when Henderson will next be available for the Patriots.
