Patriots re-sign pass-catching RB James White to two-year, $5 million deal

Two days after it was announced (by none other than his children ) that defensive back Devin McCourty would be returning to the New England Patriots for his 13th season with the team, one of his longtime teammates reportedly re-signed with the organization as well.

White has been one of the more reliable pass-catchers for the Patriots since being selected by the group in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft, collecting 381 receptions for 3,278 yards and 25 touchdowns on 511 targets across 95 regular-season games. White has added 59 catches for 506 yards and three touchdowns in 12 postseason contests, all of which came between the 2015 and 2019 seasons.

The Wisconsin product scored the game-winning touchdown on a somewhat rare run in overtime of Super Bowl LI against the Atlanta Falcons to cap off a 34-28 victory and overcome the infamous 28-3 second-half deficit. White nearly earned game MVP honors (the award went to Tom Brady) after erupting for a game-best 14 receptions and 110 receiving yards for one touchdown, while adding six carries for 29 yards and a score as well.

The 30-year-old was limited to three games in 2021 (the first time since his rookie year playing fewer than 14 contests) after being placed on injured reserve on Oct. 1 with a hip injury. White's best season came in 2018, when he produced over 1,000 yards from scrimmage (1,176) for the only time in his career.

White had career highs across the board in targets (123), receptions (87), receiving yards (751), receiving touchdowns (seven), rushing attempts (94), rushing yards (425) and rushing touchdowns (five), as New England went on to defeat the Los Angeles Rams in the Super Bowl that season.
