Patriots receiver K.J. Osborn recalls when he saved a man's life while with Vikings

A year ago, K.J. Osborn saved a man's life. 

The wide receiver pulled a man out of a burning car while in Austin, Texas. And when recalling the moment earlier this week, he explained that he was “in the right place, at the right time.”

"I was in the back of my Uber on the way home. And, to my right side, there was a car that was on fire,” Osborn said when talking with Patriots reporters for the first time since signing. “My Uber driver, we pulled over and we ran out. My Uber driver was the first man down there trying to open the car door, and get this man out of the car.

“Myself, and 3 or 4 others, we ended up going down, we pulled this man out of the car. I picked him up, walked him maybe 20 yards away from the car.”

Emergency personnel arrived at the scene soon after, but Osborn's efforts helped save a life. Yet, he doesn't want everyone to just focus on what he did. There were others involved in saving Nelson Thomas' life that day and he wanted to make sure they got the recognition they deserved. 

“It wasn’t just me. It was multiple people. It was a group effort,” Osborn said. “I’ve kept in contact with all of those people. I had them up last year for a Vikings game. They got to come on the field for pre-game. They got my jersey. It was really special.”

And ever since that day, he has kept in touch with the man he saved. 

“Nelson (Thomas), he actually just got his foot amputated maybe a week or two ago. That’s the decision he made,” Osborn said. “So I’ve been following his journey and things like that. I’m obviously happy he still has life. He’s still recovering from that. He’s definitely in my prayers, I’m sure that was a tough decision, so he’s still battling with that.”
