Patriots reportedly plan to part ways with Bill Belichick
Bill Belichick. Philip G. Pavely-USA TODAY Sports

Per NBC Sports Boston, New England Patriots insider Tom Curran is reporting the decision has already been made by the Kraft family to part ways with head coach Bill Belichick after the season.

Of course, “parting of the ways ways” is a diplomatic way of saying Belichick will be fired, as the Patriots head coach has a contract that runs through the 2024 season. One doesn’t expect the 71-year-old coach to resign a position he’s held since 2000.

The six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach has had a successful career in the NFL and with the Patriots. But the Patriots, who were mathematically eliminated from the playoffs Sunday, will miss their third postseason in four years.

Per Curran’s report, the Patriots made the decision to move on from Belichick after the team’s loss to the Indianapolis Colts in Germany:

“When they came out of Germany, conversations I had that week made it very clear that a decision was made,” Curran said. “They were going to play out the string, and at the end of the year there would be a parting of the ways, for a variety of reasons.”
