Patriots reportedly want first-round pick, player in trade for Stephon Gilmore

The New England Patriots have reportedly put everything on the table ahead of Tuesday's NFL trade deadline, as they are willing to give up pretty much anyone not named Bill Belichick for the right price in the face of a disastrously disappointing start to the season.

The biggest name the Patriots have been shopping is unquestionably Stephon Gilmore, but there have been questions about how much it would cost to acquire the former Defensive Player of the Year. And according to ESPN's Dianna Russini, there's a pretty hefty price tag on Gilmore.

"After speaking with a few GMs around the NFL, I've learned multiple teams who have called the Patriots about CB Stephon Gilmore were told by New England they want a first-round pick and a player in exchange for the 2019 AP Defensive Player of the Year," Russini tweeted this morning.

It's a lot to give up for a 30-year-old cornerback but at the same time, it's not often that someone of Gilmore's talent is even available for teams so it wouldn't be too surprising if someone eventually ponied up the necessary assets to make the trade happen.

For the Patriots, giving up a player like Gilmore is tough, but they need to make some moves to either commit to a rebuild or try and salvage their season, as they currently sit behind the Buffalo Bills and the Miami Dolphins in the AFC East standings.

The NFL trade deadline ends at 4 p.m. ET, giving teams just a few more hours to decide if they're willing to give up what it takes to grab Gilmore.
