Patriots Sign P Matt Haack

A 2017 UDFA out of Arizona State, Haack has stuck around the NFL for nearly a decade. His longest stint came in Miami, where he spent the first four seasons of his career. Since then, he’s bounced around the league a bit, making appearances with the Bills, Colts, Browns, Giants, and Cardinals.

He most recently got into seven games with Arizona in 2025, averaging a career-high 43.4 net yards per punt while placing 40 percent of his punts inside the 20. Pro Football Focus graded him 13th among 32 punters, although the site’s cited 4.24 seconds of hang time was the lowest of his career.

As for Baringer, it’s uncertain exactly what injury the punter suffered. However, Mike Vrabel told reporters that the issue was “serious enough” to require a move at the position, per Mark Daniels of MassLive. Baringer was a sixth-round pick during Bill Belichick‘s final season running New England’s drafts, and the Notre Dame product spent the past three years as the Patriots full-time punter.

The Patriots made a handful of additional moves this afternoon. The team announced that they’ve signed offensive lineman Jack Conley. To make room on the roster for the new additions, the Patriots waived cornerback Kenneth Harris and wide receiver Kobe Prentice.
