The New England Patriots are playing with a banged up Drake Maye behind center. So the reigning AFC champions took a step to address the offensive line woes. Nine-year veteran Matt Pryor is on the way as the latest NFL Free Agency signing.
Boston Globe Patriots insider Ben Volin dropped the intel there Wednesday evening.
“Source tells me Patriots are signing nine-year veteran G/T Matt Pryor off the Cardinals’ practice squad. Has been with six teams and started 40 games. Patriots are down to their third-string right guard and need depth,” Volin posted on the social media website X, formerly known as Twitter.
Head coach Mike Vrabel and the Pats gain valuable experience here. Especially amid what’s become a banged up trenches too in Foxborough. But it’s also a unit that’s become inconsistent at the start of the season.
Maye has absorbed three sacks in each of New England’s first three games. Helping shine a light on his porous one-touchdown, six-interception start to the 2026 season. Maye also hasn’t scaled past the 208-yard mark this season.
Poor pass protection isn’t the only weakness of the Pats. Staying healthy has become a blemish. And Maye’s not the only one dealing with an NFL Injury.
Star cornerback Christian Gonzalez is another who is dealing with his own shoulder injury. Gonzalez missed Wednesday practice with the Patriots and has his playing status pending before the huge clash against the 3-0 Buffalo Bills. The rivalry between both the Pats and Bills took on another meaning last season with New England returning to the top of the division. But now both teams have started in opposite directions, with New England now needing to tweak the line.
