Patriots To Trade OL Caedan Wallace To Dolphins

The Dolphins and Patriots have announced a trade agreement on this front. Wallace is heading to Miami along with a 2029 seventh-round pick. In return, New England will receive a sixth-round selection in 2028. Like all swaps, the move is conditional on a physical being passed.

Wallace was a third-round pick two years ago. Today’s developments indicate the extent to which things have not gone according to plan, although his next NFL opportunity has emerged in short order. The fact Miami has agreed to a trade indicates a waiver claim was forthcoming; the Dolphins will part with Day 3 capital to ensure any other potential suitors will not have the opportunity to put in a claim.

Two years remain on Wallace’s rookie contract, which includes a 2026 base salary of $1.34MM that the Dolphins will now be responsible for. This trade will generate the same figure with respect to cap savings for the Patriots, with the team taking on $304K in dead money. If Wallace manages to carve out a role along Miami’s O-line, he will represent a low-cost option for 2027 as well.

The 26-year-old has made just 10 appearances so far in the NFL, logging 137 offensive snaps. That workload was split between both tackle spots during Wallace’s rookie season. His only offensive playing time came at left guard in 2025. It will be interesting to see where Miami plans on using him during the remainder of training camp and in the preseason.

Plenty of positions have undergone considerable change this offseason in the case of the Dolphins with a full-scale rebuild getting underway. There will be stability atop the depth chart regarding offensive tackles, though, with Patrick Paul and Austin Jackson still in the fold. The interior will be anchored at center by Aaron Brewer in 2026 and beyond thanks to his lucrative extension. The left guard spot is set to be manned by first-round rookie Kadyn Proctor, with second-year blocker Jonah Savaiinaea moving to the right this year.

Other options along the interior include veteran Jamaree Salyer and sixth-round rookie DJ Campbell. Wallace will join that group in attempting to earn a backup spot somewhere up front on his new team.
