Patriots Trade Prediction Nets Them 1,600 Yard Elite Talent

The New England Patriots made some headway into addressing their vast offseason need at wide receiver, adding former Buffalo Bills, Stefon Diggs and Mack Hollins, in addition to drafting Arizona State wideout, Kyle Williams, in the third round of last month's draft.

But there are still questions that need to be answered, with many believing that DeMario Douglas is the sole starting-quality pass-catcher in that group outside of the new recruits - two of whom, Hollins and Diggs, are already 31 years of age.

Thus, fresh blood could be something the Patriots may be after, particularly at the position that will be so critical to the success of franchise quarterback, Drake Maye.

Bleacher Report's Matt Holder suggests that Green Bay's Christian Watson - who is currently recovering from a devastating knee injury suffered in January, could well be on the trade block.

"Watson has been a vertical threat in Green Bay over the last three seasons, totalling over 1,600 yards and nearly 17 yards per catch," Holder writes, "including 620 yards and 21.4 ypc [yards per catch] in 2024.

"However, the North Dakota State product has battled several injuries, missing 13 regular-season games as a pro. That likely played a factor in general manager Brian Gutekunst’s decision to use a first-round pick on [Texas' Matthew] Golden."

"Additionally, the Packers’ receiving room is getting crowded as Gutekunst double-dipped at the position in the draft, taking Savion Williams from TCU in the third round. That’s on top of already having Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed and Dontavion Wicks on the roster."

The Packers can afford to lose one of their many weapons - particularly one whose injury status this season is very much up in the air. And the Patriots could be smart to buy low on a player with proven ability, who could be an asset for them down the line in the years following Diggs' eventual departure.
