New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson has finally opened up about his mysterious absence from the gridiron.
Henderson, 24, was listed as a non-participant for Thursday’s practice session. When asked about Henderson’s situation, Patriots reporter Mike Reiss said it could be related to “adversity” he’s facing off the field. Well, we now know what’s going on behind the scenes.
On Friday morning, Patriots fans learned that Henderson was recently hospitalized after an “unexpected and unusual medical emergency.” Although his tests came back positive, he’s expected to be out for at least a little while.
“Recently, I experienced an unexpected and unusual medical emergency involving a series of unexplained neurological symptoms that required hospitalization for several days,” said Henderson. “During that time, I underwent extensive medical testing and evaluation. While the results of my comprehensive medical testing have come back positive and reassuring, the cause of this remains unknown and unexplainable.
“I will continue working closely with specialist and physical therapists to focus on my recovery, as these symptoms have affected my strength, coordination, and some of my physical functions. I a committed to doing everything necessary to return to full health. My health and long-term well-being remain my foremost priorities.”
Henderson hasn’t taken a snap for the Patriots since their Oct. 22 game against the Bears.
When the Patriots selected Henderson in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, the hope was that he’d immediately impact their rushing attack. In 23 career games, the Ohio State product has 1,114 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns.
Hopefully, Henderson will return to full strength and get back to playing the game he loves.
In the meantime, the Patriots will lean on Rhamondre Stevenson and Corey Kiner in the run game. We’ll see how they perform this Sunday when the Patriots host the Packers.
