The New England Patriots will be facing the New York Jets in Week 6, and there is a chance that they’ll have one of their running backs available. TreVeyon Henderson suffered an ankle sprain last week against the Las Vegas Raiders, and there was concern that he could miss some time. Well, the good news for the Patriots is that Henderson was able to practice this week, and he was even surprised that he was able to.
“I feel pretty good. We’ll see how things go,” Henderson said via Evan Lazar of Patriots.com.
It sounds like Henderson could play against the Jets, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if the team decided to sit him this week so he could fully recover. If they do sit him, Rhamondre Stevenson will take the bulk of snaps in the backfield, which he had already been doing for most of the season.
Henderson was already dealing with an injury earlier in the season that forced him to miss Week 1, but he returned the next week and scored a touchdown. Unfortunately, he hasn’t scored since then and hasn’t been very effective in the run game.
The hope is that he can find a rhythm as the season continues, as he’s one of the fastest players on the team and has shown that he can turn runs into long touchdowns.
The Patriots have been getting healthy over the week, as A.J. Brown returned to practice after missing the last few weeks with an ankle injury he suffered against the Seattle Seahawks. It’s still up in the air whether he’ll return this week or if they’ll give him another week to get back right.
As far as the defense, Christian Gonzalez practiced this week, and it looks like he’ll be back on the field.
