Patriots Week 3 Roster Updates

Another player who found themself on the injured reserve is S Dell Pettus, who injured his ankle during Sunday’s game against the Steelers during the second quarter.  With Pettus on the injured reserve, the active roster had an opening, and in steps Jose Ramirez from the practice squad.  Ramirez started in 2023 as a Buccaneer on their practice squad, eventually getting on their active roster.  In 2025, he played for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League.  He’s been on the Patriots practice squad since September 1st of this year.   When asked about Ramirez during a press conference, head coach Mike Vrabel showed confidence in the decision to bring him on.

“Well, he has been a really good practice player for us,” Vrabel said.  “I think he has improved since the time he has been here. Multiple times being recognized by taking the reps that we talk about being on the show team and using those to his advantage. So, there will be an opportunity, we’ll see, for him to be able to help us this week when we get down to the 48-man roster.”

Whitley To The Patriots Practice Squad

Of course, one backup is none backup, and the practice squad provides some sweet redundancy.  To fill the space left by Ramirez on the practice squad is Benton Whitley.  Whitley was originally on the LA Rams in 2022.  Since then, he has been with the Vikings, Giants, Cardinals, and the Buccaneers.  He was training with the Browns this past summer but was waived in August.  In his career, he has played six games.  Who knows, maybe the Patriots will give him more opportunities to play in games.  

Week 3 Roster Change Rant

At the end of week two, the Patriots were able to win against the Steelers.  The cost, however, was five players injured.  With so much adjustment needing to be done, the question is, of course, can the Patriots snag another win so soon after everything that happened Sunday?  Vrabel seems confident in the ability of his players.  He used to coach the Jaguars, so he knows a thing or two about the players and their stadium, which will be hosting the game.  Some valuable insight that could help.  For now, the roster is solidifying for the Sunday game, and the Patriots will be shipping out on Saturday.  It’s almost game day.
